AYO demands ‘bold actions’ to protect Park
Dimapur, September 4 (MExN): It is high time that Naga leaders irrespective of political “shade” or affiliation take bold steps to protect Nagaland’s forests and natural resources from unscrupulous people, an organization, Angami Youth Organization, said today. The organization said that the government and the departments should ‘leave no stone unturned to protect the state’s zoological park.
“It is high time that our leaders irrespective of political shade or affiliation take bold steps to protect our forests and natural resources from unscrupulous people. Nagas are proud of their forests and rich flora and fauna in them. However, these are fast depleting due to the activities of unscrupulous people,” the AYO stated in a note today. AYO President Khrielievi Chusi appended the note.
The Angami Youth Organization denounced the abuse and humiliation meted out to the wife of Forest officer Obed Swu at her residence by encroachers of the zoological park, Dimapur. “An attack on a woman because of her husband’s official duties is uncivilized and uncalled for and should be condemned by all,” the AYO.
“The very word ‘encroacher’ identifies those involved to be against the law and therefore they should be identified and dealt with appropriate action. The zoological park in Dimapur is the only one of its kind that the Nagas have and therefore should be protected at all cost,” the organization said.
The AYO appreciated the steps taken by Forest Minister MC Konyak, “as per news reports” where he had “requested the administration and police to arrest those involved and book them under appropriate sections of the law.”
The AYO said that the government of Nagaland and the Department of Forest, Wildlife and Ecology should therefore leave no stone unturned to protect our Reserved Forests and the Zoological Park.
