ZSUM warns Govt’s Sardar Hills decision

Dimapur, August 8 (MExN): Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Manipur (ZSUM) condemns what it calls the “irresponsible state government for being incapable of tackling the volatile situation that had developed in the NH-37 and NH-39 in connection with the demand for Sardar Hills district.”
A joint decision of the ZSUM and the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Tamenglong District (ZSUTD) in Tamenglong district reaffirmed to “disallow trespassers intruding upon the Zeliangrong historical land and never offer even an inch of our ancestral land to the outlanders even though the Zeliangrong people neither oppose nor support the creation of Sadar Hills and Jiribam into a full-fledged districts.”
A note from the ZSUM today said to oppose any ‘hasty and immature decision’ of the Manipur state government over creation of the Sadar Hills district. The area is contiguous to the land of various communities and the government should not go ahead in “making decision favoring the particular community and concede to the creation of Sardar Hill district without the consent of the collective communities,” the union stated. “Any such separatist design would trigger disharmony, chaos, and enmity and adversely affect the peaceful co-existence of various communities.”
The government of Manipur must make “tactful decision in this regard” the union said and cautioned that the organization would fight tooth and nail against the ‘encroachment of our Zeliangrong ancestral land.’ The ZSUM was appended by the union’s media information secretary David Kamei.
