The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Zunheboto district was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of MLA, Advisor and DPDB Chairman K Tokugha Sukhalu at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.

A key agenda discussed during the meeting was the transfer and vesting of unassigned public properties currently under the custodianship of the district administration to the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC). As part of the process, the multi-purpose hall was formally handed over to the ZTC.

The board noted that the arrangement would be observed for a period of one year before further decisions are taken regarding its management and administration.

Earlier, welcoming the board members, Sukhalu reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and urged all members to actively participate in discussions and raise issues concerning the district without hesitation.

Addressing the gathering, he observed that Nagaland has one of the highest ratios of government employees compared to its population, while the state's revenue generation remains limited. In this regard, he emphasised the need for government departments and officials to work diligently and ensure the proper utilization of available resources for the benefit of the public.

The Advisor further stressed the importance of conducting public awareness programme at least once or twice annually to educate and motivate citizens on various government initiatives and developmental activities. “Sustained awareness campaigns would help instill a greater sense of responsibility and participation among the public,” he noted further.

Highlighting the issue of inadequate government accommodation in Zunheboto, Sukhalu acknowledged the shortage of government quarters for officers posted in the district. To address this concern, he informed the board that the General Administration Guest House under construction at North Point Colony would provide temporary accommodation facilities for government officials and help improve public service delivery.

During the meeting, Khehoshe H Yepthomi, President, NPF Zunheboto Division pointed out that while the district produces sufficient quantities of local vegetables, “farmers continue to face challenges in marketing their produce due to the lack of proper infrastructure.” He therefore stressed the need for the construction of a rural marketing shed to facilitate better marketing opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs.

The board also deliberated on several developmental proposals. The registration of the Taekwondo Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, was approved and recommended for further necessary action. The proposal for upgradation of The Cedar School, Aghunato, was also approved and forwarded to the competent authority.
