ZYF (AMN) demands Tamenglong district rice quota be distributed immediately

Dimapur, October 6 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has stated that the act of the Consumers Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) department, Government of Manipur not allotting Tamenglong district rice quota on the alleged reason that the district administration failed to clear balance due amount of Rs.17 lakhs out of Rs.25 lakhs which was incurred last year is violation of the right to food against the people of the district which is against the right to life to the people of the district. The Association has demanded that the district quota which had already been lifted should be distributed to the people immediately.
A press note issued by Gaingamlung Pamei, Development Secretary ZYF (AMN) stated that not allotting the most basic item and deprived of district rice quota in such a critical juncture and situation on such flimsy grounds by the government of Manipur is deliberate act which amounts to imposing economic blockade to the people of the Tamenglong district. The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has strongly warned the CAF&PD department not to play with the life of the Zeliangrong people.
“Zeliangrong people are not surprised to such dealing of Manipur government as it is a regular treatment meted out to the people of Tamenglong district from time to time since very long. Whether allotment or not of  rice or other items to the people of the district will not keep the people extinct from the district but the people of Tamenglong district having great courage in striving even in such a gravest situation without raising a single word is proved once again,” stated the note.
ZYF (AMN) also said that whenever any agitations enforced with restriction of vehicular movements on the National Highways, the Manipur government has deployed maximum security forces and arranged escorts for truckers to enable ferry goods and commodities from the Jiribam and as such, large quantities of commodities and petroleum products arrive at Imphal for the purpose of equal public distribution. It also said that the people of Tamenglong being the citizen of the country, in the past had highlighted the hardships and problems for drawing the attention of the concern authority but the plight and sufferings of the people is unattended.
The Association also stated that the denial of even the most basic entitlement of Tamenglong district quota during any agitations is not a new thing. The people of Tamenglong district are not envied with mobile sale, open sale or any kinds of trading carried out by the Manipur government at Imphal but the government is advised to leave out the district rice and other essentials commodities quota without lifting it if the same is not meant for the purpose of distribution to the genuine and legitimate people of the district. “Lifting of such basic essential commodities but without the knowledge and giving out to the genuine entitle people is a crime”, it stated therefore, the people of Tamenglong district may seek the help of any appropriate forum including law court to assert right to life and also to protect the democratic citizen rights of the district if the Manipur government continue to lift the district quota of essentials commodities and others without distribution to the people of the district.
