10-hour shutdown of Kohima- Mao Highway on August 4

Kohima, August 3 (MExN): The District Magistrate of Kohima has ordered the temporary closure of a section of National Highway-2 (Kohima-Mao section) passing through the Phesama sinking area on August 4 (Tuesday), from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm to facilitate restoration work and ensure public safety.

The order was issued following a communication from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), PMU Jakhama, which reported intermittent falling of boulders from the adjoining hill slopes along the affected stretch between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100.

During the closure period, the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will remain suspended, the order stated.

For Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), traffic will be diverted via Kisama-Kigwema through Phesama Rhododendron Resort for two-way movement.

Meanwhile, Manipur-bound HMVs have been advised to travel via Peren District. In case of emergencies, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to permissible load limits.

District Magistrate B Henok Buchem, NCS, has appealed to the public to extend full cooperation during the temporary closure to enable the smooth execution of restoration works and ensure the safety of commuters.
