The 10th anniversary of Morning Premier League (MPL) Season 2025 made a colourful start here today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima under the aegis of Morning Football Association (MFA).
This meet, featuring 10 teams-Morung United, Merhulietsa FC, Mustang FC, Eagles FC, Vanguard Old Boys FC, Kohima Police (Spearheader), Morning Football Club, Unity FC, United Bulls FC and Classic Kickers, will continue till July 2015.
Gracing the opening ceremony as the special guest, Tarun Rana said “This league is special. Not just because it gives players a reason to wake up before sunrise but because it fosters discipline, teamwork, and resilience—qualities that extend beyond the football field into our everyday lives.”
Ten years ago, when the Morning Premier League first kicked off, it started as a simple idea—bringing together like-minded football lovers who didn’t want to let their love for the game fade away with busy schedules and daily responsibilities. And here we are today, celebrating a decade of early morning battles on the field, legendary goals, missed penalties and friendships that go far beyond the game, he said.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or a first-time participant, there’s one thing you’ll find here: a community that shares your love for the game and pushes you to be your best, Col Rana said.
He urged upon the players to play with heart, play with pride, and most importantly, enjoy the game!
Earlier, MFA president Burakum Ao delivered welcome address while Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) president Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome administered oath to the ten participating teams.
Bendangsashi Walling, pastor KABA invoked God’s blessings while Wasenya Magh presented a special number.
Miss Nagaland 2024 Anon Konyak released the 10th anniversary MPL. Lirunas is the title sponsor of MPL 10th anniversary.
Later, the first match between Morung United and Mustang FC ended 1-1 draw.
Stephen netted a goal for Morung United in the early 8 minute while equalizer for Mustang FC came through Setuo in the 65th minute.
