1557 non-existent pensioners detected

1557 cases of non-existent pensioners have been detected by a verification team of the Finance Department, thereby saving the state exchequer approximately Rs. 54,49,500 per month and Rs. 6.53 crore annually. This was stated in the annual administrative report of the Finance Department tabled in the just concluded assembly session. During 2009-2010, all treasury officers/sub treasury officers were directed to conduct a physical verification of pensioners under their respective treasuries/sub treasuries. The Directorate of Treasuries and Account, under the Finance Department, undertakes the task of physical verification of pensioners who are drawing monthly pensions from various treasuries and sub treasuries located in different parts of the state, and monitors the reports of such physical verification. During the year 2012-13, the Internal Audit Wing of the Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts carried out internal audit of 18 auditee units which included directorates, district offices and NGOs receiving funding from the state government.
