17th Saramati Soccer Championship 2025 held

At the inaugural programme of 17th Saramati Soccer Championship 2025.

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The 17th Saramati Soccer Championship 2025, organised by Saramati Nexus Club (SNC) was held under the theme “Together We Burgeon the Game” from December 10 -17 at Pungro, Kiphire District.

The inaugural programme was graced by Tsupithong, Economics and Statistics Officer, Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, as the Chief Guest.

In his address, he encouraged the youth to dream big through sports, emphasising that sportsmanship holds great value in the modern generation.

He also urged elders and leaders of the Pungro area to extend proper cooperation and guidance towards achieving excellence in sports.

SNC President Adilen Yimkhiung stated that the 17th Saramati Soccer Championship has grown beyond a sporting event into a vibrant community movement.

He said the championship has consistently provided a platform for young talents to emerge, while fostering spirited competition and enthusiastic public participation.

Highlighting the significance of sports, he emphasized that football promotes values such as discipline, teamwork, respect, resilience, and unity in diversity, adding that such events play a vital role in strengthening social cohesion during challenging times.

Chipong, President, Pungro Sub-Division Timber Traders Union (PSDTTU), attended the programme as the Special Guest on Wednesday.  Addressing the closing ceremony of the Championship, he spoke on the importance of youth as a vital resource and their role in bringing positive change for future generations.

KB Darjee, Assistant Commandant, Assam Rifles, Pungro, also encouraged the youth to associate themselves with security forces, highlighting sports as a strong foundation for such careers.

The final match of the tournament was played between defending champions Pujenvong FC and Phuvle FC, wherein Pujenvong FC emerged victorious, defeating Phuvle FC by 4–1 goals to clinch the title of the 17th Saramati Soccer Championship for the second consecutive time.

In the individual awards category, Varude of Pujenvong FC was adjudged the Golden Glove winner, while Azikha Augustine, also from Pujenvong FC, secured the Golden Boot award.

Aaron of Phuvle FC was named the Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance.
