1st Mkg Inter ward tournament kicks off

Mokokchung, 25 March (MexN): The 1st Mokokchung Inter ward football tournament organized by the Youth Association Marepkong (YAM) kicked off today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex. The first day of the tournament witnessed five matches. The first match between Kumlong ward and Kichutip ward ended in a score line of 3-0 with Kumlong winning the match by three goals.
Sungkomen and Lijaba Lijen trashed Sungkomen 5-0 in the second match. Arrennunsang scored a hat-trick and Takossunep and Sungtilong scored the other two goals for the winning team. The third match between Tongdentsuyong and Sangtemla ended in 3-0 in favour of Tongdentsuyong. All three goals for the team was scored by Limasungkum in the 38th, 44th and 59th minute respectively.
Yimyu ward won the fourth match by 3-0 goals against Marepkong. The first goal was scored in the 36th minute by Limanukshi and the other two goals were scored in the second half of the match in the 44th and 59th minute by Imnasashi and Moazulu respectively.
The last match was played between Alempang and Artang ward which ended in a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Artang ward. The lone winning goal for Artang was scored by Imsentoba in the 14th minute of the game.
Earlier, a brief inaugural programme was held with R. Ayim Longkumer, President, All Ward Union Mokokchung as the special guest. R. Ayim Longkumer encouraged the youth to take the tournament as a platform to develop one’s talent which should be the primary aim and said that winning should only be the secondary aim.
Short speeches were also spoken by Toshikaba, Chairman, Marepkong Ward and Meyisanger Lemtur, President, MDFA at the inaugural function.
