
Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): The 24 Assam rifles while conducting Motor Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at the Blue Hill Station Road, Dimapur intercepted one Maruti Van bearing registration No. NL-07C-0505 carrying 100 cases of assorted contraband liquor on August 3, 2:00 am.
Immediately, the duty party arrested the two accused persons of the vehicle namely Ibrahim Hag, S/o Mujibur Hag of Lahorijan and Mahesh Singh (22) S/0 late Laxman Singh of Lahorijan, Assam, informed a press note issued by Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition Pitongse Sangtam.
The Assam Rifles personnel after maintaining proper seizure memo and other necessary documents handed over the two accused persons, contraband articles and the seized vehicle to the superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur.
The note added that basing on the report of the Investigating Officer, the accused persons were penalized as per the relevant sections of NLTP Act 1989 and the contraband items deposited in the Excise Malkhana.
“The vigilant action of the 24 Assam Rifles in intercepting the contraband liquor and handing over the case as per the laid down procedures and law is appreciated,” the note said.
