The Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) today officially launched the 1st Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League 2026 and slot allotment ceremony at 2K Hotel, Kohima under the theme “Honouring the Legacy.”
Instituted in memory of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose, the league aims to honour his contribution to football in Nagaland while promoting grassroots football and creating opportunities for young players to compete at a higher level.
The inaugural edition of the league will feature five teams: Mez & Co, Sechü Zubza FC, Tsûtuonuomia Youth Organization, Nurturing Youngsters FC and Vanguard Academy.
Addressing the launching programme, Neidilhoulie Keditsu, Director, Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland, described the launching of Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League as a landmark initiative for football in Kohima.
He expressed confidence that the league would serve as a platform for discovering and developing talented footballers capable of representing Nagaland and India.
Highlighting the importance of youth development, Keditsu urged players to remain dedicated to the sport and strive for excellence. He said the league should inspire a new generation of footballers who can compete at national and international levels, adding that Nagaland has the potential to produce players of the highest calibre.
He also lauded the family of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose for taking the initiative to preserve his legacy through football and thanked the team owners for supporting a tournament that seeks to benefit young players and strengthen the football ecosystem in the district.
Calling on all participating teams to uphold discipline and sportsmanship, Keditsu said such initiatives would not only promote healthy competition but also contribute to the overall growth of football in the state.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Medolenuo Loucü, Press Secretary, KDFA while invocation was pronounced by Rev Sentisashi Aier, Senior Pastor, Ao Baptist Church, Kohima.
Viliebiezo Ligietsu, General Secretary, KDFA, delivered welcome address while Kevilebei Zashümo, Technical Director, KDFA presented the league preamble before the official launch and slot allotment.
The organisers expressed confidence that the Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League would emerge as a key platform for identifying and nurturing football talent while preserving the legacy of one of Nagaland's respected football personalities.
The league is organized by KDFA under the aegis of Nagaland Football Association in collaboration with Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland.
The match will start from August 12 to 29 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
