Eden Academy, Mokokchung, marked its Senior Cultural Day 2026 cum Pre-Tsüngremmung with the traditional Arr Yimdong Sü (Vine Pulling Procession) on July 31.
The procession began at Jubilee Memorial College, Aongza, and culminated at Eden Academy, Kumlong. Students, teachers, guests and community members participated in the symbolic event, which reflects collective effort, unity and the bonds that bring people together across generations.
District Cultural Officer Moses Newmai, the guest of honour, said the Vine Pulling Procession historically represented the community’s effort to drive away evil spirits and illness from the village and prepare for the blessings of the festival. He said the tradition continues to strengthen a shared sense of purpose and cultural identity.
Addressing the students, Newmai emphasised that culture remains the root of a people’s identity. He urged the senior students to carry forward the values of unity, integrity, hard work and community bonding, and to serve as proud ambassadors of the Ao tribe and the Naga people wherever they go.
Eden Academy Administrator I. Temsu Jamir while welcoming the guests said the school observes two cultural days each year, with one held before Moatsü for students up to Grade 3 and the other during Tsüngremmung for senior students. He noted that the school seeks to make its festivals inclusive, allowing all students to participate and experience the celebrations as a shared community occasion.
He said the event was especially significant for Grade 10 students, for whom it may be their final cultural programme at the school.
The programme featured a wide range of cultural songs, dances and plays presented by students from various grades.
