3 more detained in April 7 suspected rape & murder

Three more persons were detained by the police in connection to the April 7 suspected rape and murder of a 35 year-old woman. The body of the victim, a vegetable vendor by profession, was discovered half clothed and throat slit at a secluded area in Pimla village, Chümoukedima. 

In the subsequent police investigation, five suspects were detained. On April 9, three more were detained. It could not be officially verified whether they were arrested or detained for investigative purposes. 

The police have yet to make a formal statement on the progress of the investigation, three days into the investigation.

Civil society organisations encompassing the Zeliangrong has called for a protest rally on April 11 in Maikham village, Peren.
