Opening clash between Oilek FC and GHSS Hakushang ends in draw

The 33rd edition of the Loyem Memorial Trophy 2025 commenced today at the Loyem Memorial Astro-Turf Ground, Tuensang, under the theme “Resonate Football.”

The inaugural match of the district’s biggest football tournament, organised by the Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference), featured a clash between Oilek FC and GHSS Hakushang School FC, which ended in a draw.

Two matches are scheduled for October 29, with Yungyangkhu FC facing Shanen FC in the first match at 12:30 p.m. In the second match at 2:30 p.m., Tujunu FC will take on United Comets.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, graced the opening ceremony as the special guest. She was received by the Yangpi Saoshuong Thangjam, Tuensang Town.

Convenor of the tournament, Y Hongkin Chang, delivered the welcome address, followed by short speeches from representatives of the Loyem family and Er Chingmak Chang on behalf of the Chang Sports Association.

The event also featured flag hoisting, the rendering of the Chang Anthem, a special number by Benjongkhumla, and a presentation by students of St John’s Higher Secondary School, Tuensang.
The programme was chaired by Sanglekhamba, CWS General Secretary, with an invocation by Rev Moatoshi, Pastor of Tuensang Town Ao Baptist Arogo.

The Loyem Memorial Trophy, one of Tuensang’s oldest football tournaments, carries a total prize pool of Rs 4.5 lakh, with Rs 2.5 lakh for the champion, Rs 1.5 lakh for the runner-up, and Rs 25,000 each for the losing semi-finalists.

Individual awards include the Golden Ball (Rs 20,000 and trophy), Golden Boot (Rs 10,000 and certificate), and Golden Glove (Rs 10,000 and certificate).
