PTSU seeks urgent posting of doctor at CHC
Pungro, February 20 (MExN): The Pungro Town Students' Union (PTSU) has urged the Principal Director of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, to immediately post a reliever following the transfer of Dr Keshika V Achumi, Medical Officer at Community Health Centre (CHC) Pungro.
In a petition submitted to the department, the union expressed concern that CHC Pungro, being the only community health centre in the entire sub-division, caters to as many as 56 villages, primarily serving marginalised and remote populations who rely entirely on the hospital for their medical needs, the union stated in its petition.
The union highlighted that there is already a shortage of doctors at CHC Pungro, with civil society organisations and stakeholders consistently demanding the appointment of additional doctors in the interest of public health.
“In such a situation, the transfer of a Medical Officer without the immediate posting of a reliever is deeply concerning and disheartening. It adversely affects healthcare delivery in one of the most remote regions of the state,” the petition stated.
The union emphasised that access to healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen and the absence of adequate medical personnel places the lives and well-being of the public at serious risk.
PTSU President K Mukamchem Yim and General Secretary Tsusuthong, who submitted the petition, strongly urged the department to ensure the immediate posting of a reliever in place of the transferred medical officer without further delay in the greater interest of public health and welfare.
The transfer order was issued vide Ref No H&FW(A)-12/235/2024 dated February 18, 2026, it added.
