NGBFPC seeks ceasefire with NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) amid Myanmar peace initiative

Diampur, Octbober 29 (MExN):  Welcoming the recent peace initiative between the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peace-making Negotiation Committee (NSPNC), the Nagaland Gaonbura Federation Peace Committee (NGBFPC) has urged the Government of India (GoI)  and the Naga group to initiate a formal ceasefire and structured peace process.

The NGBFPC said the October 22 meeting in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, was an encouraging development towards dialogue, reconciliation and lasting peace in the region.

In a statement, the Federation said it had consistently appealed to the GoI to declare a ceasefire and initiate peaceful dialogue with the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu).

The recent initiative in Myanmar, it stated, reinforced the belief that longstanding differences could be resolved through mutual understanding, constructive engagement and peaceful negotiations.

Against this backdrop, the NGBFPC appealed to both the GoI and the NSCN (K) Ang Mai-Mulatonu leadership to enter into a formal ceasefire agreement and initiate a structured peace process.

Such an initiative would help reduce hostilities, build mutual trust and create an environment conducive to meaningful political dialogue, it held.

The Committee also urged both sides to demonstrate sincerity, political will and a commitment to peaceful engagement in the larger interest of the people.

Emphasising that peace was a collective responsibility, the NGBFPC said every genuine effort towards reconciliation deserved encouragement and support.

It expressed hope that the positive development would inspire further peace initiatives and contribute to lasting harmony, stability and security in Naga-inhabited areas for future generations.
