5th Inter-Department Badminton Tournament kicks off in Kohima

KOHIMA, AUGUST 8 (MExN): The 5th edition of the Inter-Department Badminton Tournament commenced on August 8 at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Stadium, Kohima, with 61 teams from various departments participating.

Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland and President, Directorate of School Education Club, Dr. Kevizakie Rio, graced the inaugural function as the special guest. Addressing the gathering, he reminded, “All work and no play makes Jack dull,” and encouraged participants representing various departments to stay active by engaging in healthy games.

He lauded the Inter-Departmental Badminton Club (IDBC) Kohima for organizing the tournament annually since 2021, and urged department officials to cultivate good coordination with each other for optimizing human resources in serving the people. He concluded his speech by wishing the participants to “give its best and enjoy every match.”

In his presidential address, Er. Vipulhou Lhoungu, President of IDBC, stated that the Inter-Departmental Badminton Club was formed in 2020, and since then, it has taken the initiative to organize the annual tournament. He said the objective and vision behind the tournament is to create a platform for all officers, staff, and Heads of Departments (HoDs) to come together, interact, have healthy discussions, and take a break from their busy schedules.

The President of IDBC officially declared the tournament open. Other highlights of the programme included a special number presented by Elike Shohe, invocation by Rev. Dr. Kevichalie Metha, Pastor of Paraciezie Baptist Church, Kohima, and a vote of thanks delivered by Nokchasashi (NCS), Additional Secretary to the Government of Nagaland and Vice President of IDBC. The function was chaired by Tsutsowe Kupa (NCS), Finance Secretary of IDBC.
