Niuland’s Sujit Kumar receives the Player of the Match certificate.
DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 (MExN): Dimapur and Niuland began their campaigns in the 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament 2025 with victories on April 7, each securing wins in one-sided affairs at venues in Dimapur.
At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Dimapur cruised past Peren with a 9-wicket victory. After being put in to bat, Peren’s innings folded for just 33 runs in 14.5 overs. Their batting order crumbled against disciplined bowling, with only Anurag Gupta managing to score 9 runs. Deepak Thakur led Dimapur’s bowling attack with an impressive 4 for 16 in seven overs, earning him the Player of the Match title.
In response, Dimapur chased down the modest target in just 8.1 overs, losing one wicket in the process. Arnab guided the team to victory with an unbeaten 14 off 21 balls. Peren’s lone breakthrough came from Monesor Basumatary, but the game had already slipped away.
Over at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Niuland outclassed Tseminyu by 7 wickets. Tseminyu, electing to bat first, showed early signs of stability with contributions from Rohit Uddin and Sonyelo Kent, scoring 43 and 30 respectively. However, a sudden collapse saw them bundled out for 113 in 30.2 overs.
Niuland’s Sujit Kumar was the standout performer, taking 7 wickets for just 11 runs in a six-over spell that dismantled the middle and lower order. His match-winning effort earned him the Player of the Match award.
Niuland chased the target comfortably in 19.3 overs, with Jeetender scoring a steady 37 off 33 balls to see his side home. The team maintained control throughout the innings, never allowing the required run rate to build pressure.
In the next fixtures, Chümoukedima will face Wokha at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, while Tuensang takes on Mokokchung at Sovima Cricket Ground. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
