CHÜMOUKEDIMA, APRIL 8 (MExN): The 5th Late G Rio Men’s U19 Tournament witnessed two thrilling encounters on April 8, with Wokha and Mokokchung emerging victorious in dramatic fashion over Chümoukedima and Tuensang, respectively.
In a nail-biting contest at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Wokha secured a hard-fought victory by 14 runs over Chümoukedima. Chümoukedima won the toss and opted to field, hoping to capitalize on early conditions. Wokha, however, faced early setbacks and were bowled out for just 78 runs in 21 overs. Despite the challenging start, Shahil Uddin Laskar’s crucial knock of 18 runs helped Wokha set a modest target of 79.
Wokha’s bowlers then rose to the occasion, delivering a stellar performance that kept Chümoukedima under constant pressure. Krishna Kumar was the standout bowler, claiming an outstanding 6 wickets for just 21 runs in 9 overs. Ravi Kumar Ram also made a significant impact with 4 wickets for 1 run in 5 overs. Chümoukedima, in their chase of 79, faltered early and were bowled out for just 64 runs in 22.2 overs. Despite a brave 17-run contribution from Yanselong, no other Chümoukedima batsman managed to reach double figures.
Krishna Kumar’s match-winning spell earned him the Player of the Match award, as Wokha maintained high intensity and discipline throughout, securing a 14-run victory.
In another exciting match at Sovima Cricket Ground in Chümoukedima, Mokokchung triumphed over Tuensang by a commanding 154 runs. Tuensang, having won the toss, chose to field but struggled to contain Mokokchung’s batting line-up. Mokokchung posted a challenging total of 187 runs for 10 wickets in 39.4 overs, with Amongti Lkr leading the charge with a composed 42 runs off 76 balls. Imkongmemba provided vital support with a quick-fire 37, boosting Mokokchung’s total.
Mokokchung’s bowlers were equally impressive, with Shumritsa claiming 4 wickets for 34 runs in 10 overs, while Aratsa Mongzar added 2 wickets for 51 runs. In response, Tuensang’s batting line-up collapsed under pressure and was bowled out for just 33 runs in 19.1 overs. Phololi was the top scorer for Tuensang with 8 runs, but the rest of the team failed to contribute significantly.
Amongti Lkr, who had earlier played a key role with the bat, was also the star with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 20 runs in 9.1 overs. His spell, combined with Sungjemmongba’s devastating 4 wickets for 8 runs in 7 overs, dismantled Tuensang’s batting and secured a comprehensive 154-run victory for Mokokchung.
The Player of the Match award went to Amongti Lkr for his all-round performance, which played a pivotal role in Mokokchung’s dominant win.
