Kohima, January 17 (MExN): The 60th meet of Tizu Area Sports Association (TASA) kicked off at Tizu Area sports complex Khuza town in Phek district under the motto “Friendship forever” on January 17.
Alezo Venuh, Ato Kilonser Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland, Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland GPRN/NSCN (Unification) graced the opening ceremony as the special guest and Khuzah Jurry, NPS, SDPO Phek as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Alezo Venuh lauded the pioneers for painstakingly founding the Association (TASA) with much toil and carrying on the tournament torch, keeping the indelible legacy intact thus far. He advised the players to strictly develop discipline in every game and sports while encouraging the players that top professional athletes can earn significant salary, endorsement and sponsorship.
He also expressed deep concern over the adverse effect of the consumption of alcohol and urged the sportspersons to abstain from all sorts of harmful substances. Venuh expressed happiness over the excellent performances of some players from Tizu Area who had represented the state at the national and international events in different fields and bought laurel to the Naga community as well to the country.
He particularly mentioned Yoto Chizo of Khutsokhuno village who clinched gold medal in Muaythai National championship (Boxing) at Guwahati, setting a trailblazer in the sport world for the Nagas.
Also gracing the function, Khuzah Jurry said that sports as a profession has become a respected career path for many athletes.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by TASA General Secretary, Divito Vese while Vekhoyi Lohe, chairman, TABCC invoked God’s blessings. Nesapra Vero, chairman, Khuza Village Council delivered welcome address.
The programme also witnessed folk tune from Khuza mother’s group and Muzilu Keyho. TASA President, Ludoveyi Vero delivered the presidential address while greeting was shared by Nungoi Chizo, President, Tizu Area Public Welfare Organisation. TASA Vice President, Rakholü Sapu led acknowledgment of the dignitaries and invitees present at the opening ceremony. TASA Games & Sports Secretary Vetu Tetseo administered oath to the participating teams.
Altogether, 9 teams will be competing for the coveted championship in track and field events and various games for both men and women.
The meet will culminate on January 22.
