Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): Power supply to Mon District remained severely affected for the second consecutive day on July 20, after heavy rainfall triggered an earth fault and a subsequent massive landslide that snapped conductors on the critical 66kV Naginimora – Tizit Transmission Line.
The initial fault was detected at 4:30 AM on July 19 near Tiru Village, caused by incessant rain. However, restoration was delayed due to severe flooding and road blockades. A second, more damaging incident occurred around 1:00 PM on July 20, when a heavy landslide broke a conductor between Tower locations No. 7 and 8 near Naginimora Town, compounding the outage.
According to a press release issued by Mokokchung Transmission Division Executive Engineer Hekaito Assumi, intensive line patrolling, carried out with the help of local residents eventually identified both fault points. However, authorities have not yet given a timeline for complete restoration, citing treacherous ground conditions.
“The department is making all possible efforts to assess the damage and restore power at the earliest,” the release said, while appealing to consumers in Tizit and Mon sections to bear with the inconvenience as restoration work is expedited.
