WOKHA | MARCH 20 : The 7th NAP Unit Baptist Church, Bhandari, celebrated its silver jubilee on March 19 and 20 under the theme “Christ our protector.” The main speakers during the two-day celebration were NPBCA executive secretary, Rev. D Rev. Dr. Mong Lotha, Rev. Dr. Coppe Mero of Resource Centre Dimapur and professor of ETC Jorhat, Rev. Dr. Ezamo Murry. Special invitees including Parliamentary secretary for Prison and Home Guards, W Kithan, Parliamentary secretary for Geology & Mining, Y Patton and commissioner & secretary (Industries & Commerce), Mhathung Kithan, also exhorted the congregation.
Greeting the 7th NAP church congregation on the joyous occasion, Parliamentary secretary for Geology & Mining, Y Patton, in his exhortation on the second day said that he too had completed 25 years of active politics from Bhandari assembly constituency before changing his constituency to Tiyi A/C. Patton said that during his 25 years as a politician from Bhandari, he might have won not only friends but hurt the sentiments of many people. Likewise, there were also people who had done him wrong in the past, he said. Taking the opportunity of the jubilee celebration, the politician called upon the people of the area to “forgive and forget” past mistakes and hurts and renew their relationships with each other and God. He also assured help the area people and the Church in whatever manner he could.
The parliamentary secretary also extended financial assistance towards the jubilee celebration. Rev. Dr. Coppe Mero in his message on the topic “Christ our deliverer” said that God had plans for all men but that Satan is always at work to destroy our relationship with God and kill them spiritually. Quoting from the Book of St John and the life of prophet Jeremiah, Rev. Mero, “We are under bondage and bogged down by sin,” and that the only way to true freedom was though Jesu Christ. The preacher said that in order to come out of their bondage, men have first to admit that they have a problem or confess their sins and denial would only lead to further complications.
The second step is to have firm belief that Jesus is the deliverer. “Knowing about God will not do ay good, what counts is knowing Him personally. Even Satan knows about God,” Rev. Mero said. Stating that many Nagas are “nominal Christians,” Rev. Mero reminded that jubilee is a time to renew and strengthen their relationship with God. Additional DGP (Admn) LT Lotha also extended greetings on the occasion. Jubilee choir and various churches of the area presented special numbers. Among others, IGP (Range) Thungbemo Lotha, DIG (Range) PF Zeliang, commandant 7th NAP, Philip Humtsoe and government officials attended the jubilee service.
