MOKOKCHUNG, APRIL 7 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has said it “fully supports” the demand made by the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) for the construction and repair of the road stretch between Rotary Junction and the IOC intersection in Mokokchung.
In a press statement issued by AKM President Lanutoshi Aier and General Secretary Satemmongba, the student body said it “stands in solidarity with the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM)” and expressed concern over the “deplorable road condition” along the route.
“The deplorable road condition hampers the smooth movement of vehicles as well as is a primary cause of accidents while trying to avert the potholes in the middle of the road,” AKM said.
The stretch, which links congested areas before merging with National Highway 702D, was “temporarily patched in September 2024 under the initiatives by the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference,” the statement said. However, the group noted that the road “has been neglected for years,” despite its importance as a key connector.
“Good roads are a basic right of every citizen and directly impacts the quality of life,” the AKM stated. “We want to remind the department and the government the responsibility to ensure well-constructed and maintained roads.”
The AKM urged the relevant department to take up the matter on priority and provide “special sanction for repair before the arrival of monsoon season.”
