Akuluto, July 6 (MExN): Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the slaughter, sale, import and export of pigs, pork and pig products in Akuluto town and neighbouring villages following a suspected outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at the State Pig Breeding Centre (SPBC), an official order said on Monday.
The restriction, issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tiayanger Jamir, covers Akuluto town and all locations within a one-kilometre radius, including Lumithsami, Shichimi, Sutemi and Alaphumi villages, until further orders.
The decision came after the Office of the Farm Manager, SPBC Akuluto, reported a suspected ASF outbreak resulting in pig deaths at the breeding centre. Post-mortem examination of the deceased animals has revealed gross pathological lesions consistent with the disease, and samples have been collected for laboratory confirmation, the order stated.
African Swine Fever is a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, capable of causing severe economic losses and rapid spread through the movement of infected pigs, pork, and contaminated materials.
All slaughter points and shops selling pork within the notified area have been directed to remain closed during the period of the order. Pig owners have been instructed to immediately report any unusual illness or death of pigs to the Farm Manager, SPBC Akuluto.
The ADC warned that any person found violating the order shall be liable for action under the relevant provisions of law.
