Wokha, July 6 (MExN): The Wokha Town Council (WTC) has lifted the temporary ban on the sale of pork across its jurisdiction with immediate effect, following a review of the prevailing animal disease situation in consultation with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Wokha.

The decision, however, comes with strict regulatory conditions governing the import, export, and transportation of live pigs. As per the new order, movement of live pigs is permitted only from the Amguri-Assam site to Wokha Town via the Mokokchung route.

Every consignment of live pigs must be accompanied by a valid Health Certificate issued by a registered Veterinary Officer, certifying that the animals are clinically healthy and originate from an African Swine Fever (ASF)-free area.

The directive supersedes the earlier order issued on May 2, 2026, which had imposed the temporary ban.

In an official communication, W Myingthungo Kikon, Chairperson, WTC, advised all butchers, traders, and transporters to extend full cooperation and strictly comply with the order.

He further urged stakeholders to immediately report any signs of illness, suspected infectious diseases, or death of pigs to the competent authority.

“Failure to comply, appropriate action will be initiated as per the relevant provision of Law,” the order stated.
