The All Nagaland Volleyball Championship 2025 commenced at Aliba village, Mokokchung, on Tuesday, bringing together 18 teams from across the State to compete under the theme “In Pursuit of Excellence.” The three-day event, organised by LL Group and managed by Nakzoer, will conclude on November 6.

Addressing the gathering, Guest of Honour Wabang Kichu thanked the organisers for the opportunity and lauded the players for their participation, stating that volleyball has become one of the most suitable and rapidly growing sports in Nagaland due to its accessibility. “Unlike football or cricket, volleyball requires little space and minimal equipment, making it ideal for our hilly terrain and a perfect sport to nurture talent,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of discipline, consistency, and teamwork, he encouraged athletes to train regularly beyond tournaments. “Champions are made in the trenches and not on the sidelines. It is not only talent but hard work, perseverance and unity that create winners,” he remarked, adding that players must respect their coaches, managers, and elders to excel on and off the court.

Kichu also reminded players to learn from defeat and set clear goals in their pursuit of excellence. “Even if you lose, learn from your mistakes. Determination and consistency are key. You can also become champions if you remain committed,” he stated, wishing all teams a successful and healthy tournament.

The championship carries a total prize pool of over Rs 3 lakh, with the champions receiving Rs 1.20 lakh, the runners-up RS 80,000, the third-place team Rs 60,000, and the fourth-place team Rs 40,000.

Additionally, individual awards for Best Spiker, Best Setter, Player of the Tournament, and Emerging Player of the Tournament are each worth Rs 5,000, along with Player of the Match cash awards from the knockout stages.

A total of 18 teams are competing in a league-cum-knockout format. Pool A and Pool B consist of five teams each, while Pool C and Pool D have four teams each.

The opening match was played between Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) and Fabled United Dimapur, where CVA defeated Fabled United in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, marking a strong start to the tournament.

The closing ceremony on November 6 will be graced by Imkong L. Imchen, MLA and Advisor for IPR & Soil and Water Conservation, as the Chief Guest.
