DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) has strongly condemned the criminal intrusion allegedly by armed cadres of the NSCN-K (Khango-Vusshe) into a private residence in Aoyimkum village, Dimapur, in the early hours of December 15. The incident involved firing inside the residence, resulting in injury to a victim and the abduction of five persons at gunpoint.
In a statement, the ALT expressed shock and dismay at how these gunmen blatantly entered the jurisdiction of a government-recognised village, terrorising occupants, including elderly parents, women, and children. The ALT said no explanation could justify such a violation, which must be condemned by all.
The group deplored the incident, especially at a time when people are preparing for Christmas and New Year celebrations, saying that such anti-social activities create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. The ALT highlighted that repeated criminal acts by such groups continue due to the lack of convictions in the judiciary and absence of actions under the National Security Act (NSA), for reasons unknown to the public.
The statement recalled a similar incident exactly a year ago when a bona fide member and entrepreneur of ALT from Chümoukedima was threatened by the same Naga Political Group (NPG). The ALT raised serious questions about law enforcement’s failure to resolve these cases and warned that it may mobilise community opinion to decide on further action.
Expressing loss of confidence in the Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) and Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB), the ALT demanded the resignation of the CFMG chairman on moral grounds for failing to act against violations of ceasefire agreements.
ALT also urged the Dimapur Police to expedite investigations and arrest the perpetrators without delay. The organisation pledged full support to DAYO’s efforts to bring the criminals to justice and appealed to fellow Naga youth and civil society organisations to collectively condemn the incident and consider non-cooperation against such NPGs.
