Kohima, July 17 (MExN): Two National People's Party (NPP) councillors of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on July 17 joined the Naga People's Front (NPF), increasing the latter's strength in the 19-member municipal body to 15 councillors.

Councillor Medoviu Martin Suohu of Ward No. 19 and Councillor Vizokhoto George Kirha of Ward No. 14, along with their supporters, resigned from the NPP and formally joined the NPF.

According to a press communiqué issued by the NPF, both leaders pledged to work for the "development and progress" of Kohima.

Welcoming the two councillors into the party, NPF Secretary General and Advisor Achumbemo Kikon described their decision as a boost for the regional party, particularly within the KMC. He urged the new members to remain committed to the party and uphold its discipline.

Kikon said the NPF has remained a regional-centric party since its inception in 1963 and continues to advocate for the peaceful resolution of the Naga political issue. He also stated that many Naga leaders have joined the party as people increasingly recognise the importance of a strong regional political party to safeguard the rights and identity of the Nagas.

Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse, who is also the Legislator-in-Charge of Kohima Division, welcomed the two councillors and termed their induction a positive development for the party. She called on all KMC councillors to work together in unity for the welfare of the people and the overall development of the State capital.

MLA and Advisor for School Education Dr Kekhrie Yhome, Kohima Division President Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, and COB Vice President Menuovilie Kesiezie also congratulated the two councillors and expressed hope that their joining would further strengthen the party, the communiqué added.
