DIMAPUR, July 20 (MExN): 9 persons were arrested today at around 2 am by Dimapur Police personnel under the command of SDPO (Nuiland), in connection with smuggling of arms and ammunitions. The raid and seizure was carried out after receiving information about the illegal arms transactions at Zeliangrong Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur. According to police sources, an AK-47 with magazine, a US made grenade- launcher, incriminating documents pertaining to motor vehicle certificates of registration a rubber stamp seal and a round seal with ‘District Transport Officer Guwahati, Assam’ embossed on it were recovered from their possession. The arrested gave their names to Police as D. John, Kariba, R. Asung, Lhotoshe, Ajambo, H. Lungraimba, Enock, Maninglumba and Senabi Sharma.
In another similar incident, Wednesday, July 19, the East Police personnel led by the Officer-in-Charge on receiving information carried out a raid at Burma Camp area and recovered two M-20 pistols. The arms smugglers managed to flee away taking the advantage of the darkness despite the efforts of the personnel in nabbing the smugglers.
