The inaugural edition of the Arrenpong Sports Festival organized by the Mopungchuket Ait Laishir Telungjem (MALT), the Mopungchuket students’ union, under the aegis of Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC) culminated here today at Yimli Ground, Mopungchuket. The three-day sports festival was held under two categories – Arrenpong Open and intra-Mopungchuket. The open competitions were held on December 18 for four events including the Mopungchuket Cross Country Run, Futsal Championship, Fastest Bowler Competitions and Sand Volleyball Championship. Meanwhile, the intra-Mopungchuket competitions were held on December 19 & 20 for four events including Football, Volleyball, Basketball and Table Tennis.
In the intra-Mopungchuket competitions, MALT Impur won the football tournament by defeating MALT Mokokchung by 2 goals to nil in the final match played today. MALT Impur also emerged champions in the Basketball (Girls) tournament with MALT Kohima settling for the second place title. MALT Tzüdikong and MALT Dimapur won the Volleyball men’s and women’s categories by defeating MALT Yimli and MALT Impur respectively. In table tennis (boys) finals, MALT Impur defeated MALT Kohima while in the girls’ table tennis, MALT Impur overcame MALT Kohima. MALT Impur was declared the over-all champions. All the winners were awarded with certificates, medals and cash prize.
