ASF outbreak confirmed in three Mokokchung areas

Mokokchung, May 19 (MExN): In view of a positive outbreak report of African Swine Fever (ASF) from Chungtia village, Kangtsungyimsen village and Shitikolak ward in Tuli under Mokokchung District, the district administration has issued a series of advisories for strict adherence, including a ban on the purchase and consumption of pork within the affected areas and contiguous regions.

An order issued by Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, stated that the advisories were based on a letter dated May 12, 2026, received from the Office of the Chief AJL & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung.

The public has been advised to abstain from buying and consumption of pork within the aforementioned areas and its contiguous regions. The infected area shall be strictly monitored by the Veterinary Department in coordination with the concerned area administrative officers, the order stated.

The import of pigs from outside the state shall be strictly monitored and regulated by the Veterinary Department in accordance with relevant guidelines. The imported consignment shall be mandatorily tested on entry into the district by the Veterinary Department, and the transit time within the Tuli Sub-Division at designated stockyards shall not be more than 24 hours. Thereafter, mandatory testing should be done anew before further dispatching or transporting to neighbouring sub-divisions and districts outside Tuli, the order added.

The department has been directed to closely monitor the situation in border areas and ensure extensive testing to avoid any further spread of the disease.

Further, the public has been advised to be cautious, and any suspicious behaviour or suspected death of pigs due to African Swine Fever should be immediately reported to the Office of the Chief A.H & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung, through Dr Imtilong Longkumer, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, at contact number 9500807407.
