Jorhat, February 24 (MExN): A peace coordination meeting cum get together was held today in the Foothills adjoining Akumen village (Lirmen-C) of Mokokchung district and Aligaon in Jorhat District. The meeting was organised by the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) BPCC (A-N).
Chairing the meeting, BPCC (A-N) President, Jiten Buragohain shared on the demise of Z Toshi Jamir, BPCC (A-N) Secretary designate from Nagaland side who passed away last year after a brief illness. In honour of his memory, the house observed a one-minute silence to mourn for the departed member.
A press release issued by BPCC (A-N) Coordinator, Er Temsu Wathi Ao and Secretary Manoj Choudhury stated that during the meeting, O Sangpang of Saringyim, Vice President BPCC (A-N) briefed on how the committee established peace in Saringyim and Naganijan border conflict through sincerity and dedication in 2013. Amboto conflict was discussed by a member from Amboto village.
N Likok Pongen, a founder member of BPCC (A-N) stressed that if people from both sides are united and have true sense of goodwill, critical problems can be solved.

Purnananda Gogoi of Gabharoo Aligaon, also a senior member of BPCC (A-N) spoke on peace and tranquility. Village Panchayat President of Gabharoo Aligaon said that harmony should be developed at any cost for the larger interest of both people.
Pobon Gogoi of Medeluajan, an active social worker and also member of BPCC (A-N) stated how they are working restlessly by maintaining peaceful atmosphere. He said they are encouraging cooperation between the two sides of the people by organising sports every year. Pulin Handiqui BPCC (A-N) member from Mariani sector said that “if women are included, the BPCC (A-N) will be strengthened in its mission.” Village Council Chairman Chungtiayimsen, Purtemsu Kichu said that BPCC (A-N) is working very hard for promotion of peace in the border region. BPCC member Amal Mili advocated that there is no option but to work for peace and goodwill.
The release added that the house unanimously resolved to further strengthen the ongoing activities viz games & sports, cultural exchange programs etc in the border fringes involving the people from either sides.
BPCC (A-N) Coordinator, Er Temsu Wathi Ao thanked the members for their dedication and selflessly working in their respective zones for harnessing peace amongst the border living people. “Peace cannot be purchased but it is earned through one's devotion in understanding humankind with love and sharing, the coordinator retorted,” he stated.
He also informed that the committee was communicating with schools located in both sides of the border by organising cultural, social and educational activities.
A large number of BPCC (A-N) Executive members numbering 57 from Tssori Old & New, Changpang, Amboto, Aghautito, Methihe,Tsurangkong area and Lower Japukong range villages from Nagaland sector alongwith the members from Borhulla, Bekajan, Medeluajan, Mariani sector up to Selenghat participated in the meet.
