Imphal | November 2
The All Tribal Student Union, Manipur (ATSUM) said on Monday that it will start imposing 48 hours inter-state bandh and ban on construction works of national projects in the state from November 5 if the state government fails to meet the demand.
The apex tribal student body of Manipur reminded that it had given 10 day’s time to the state government to take steps for the conduct of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) election on time. “However, today (November 2) is the 8th day but till date nothing has come forth from the state government in this regard”, ATSUM leaders said.
ATSUM had deferred its proposed agitation on October 25 by 10 days. The deadline will lapse on November 4.
In view of the “sincere commitment” from the state government to take steps for early conduct of Autonomous District Council (ADC) election on time” ATSUM had deferred the proposed 48-hour inter-state bandh and ban on construction works of national projects in the state which was scheduled to commence from October 26.
“If the state government still fails to take steps during the 48 hours agitation, we will intensify our agitation,” said ATSUM leaders.
The apex tribal student’s body of Manipur is demanding notification for the conduct of the elections to the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in hill districts of the state.
According to ATSUM, the term of office of the incumbent ADCs in the aftermath of the first six months extension expires in the month of November 2020.
