Blockade on Kohima-Jessami NHIDCL works enters 12th day

Kohima, July 28 (MExN): The blockade of all NHIDCL-related works and activities along the Kohima-Jessami two-lane road project, covering packages 2b to 5, has entered its 12th consecutive day, with aggrieved landowners stating that there has been no response from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

In a press statement, the Convenor of the aggrieved landowners, Küvelüyi Chuzho said that the “lack of concern exhibited by the NHIDCL towards the welfare of the affected people has only strengthened the resolve of the landowners to continue their protest until a resolution is reached.”

The landowners alleged that despite multiple attempts to engage with the NHIDCL and seek a “fair and timely resolution for the damages caused to their properties,” they have been met with “silence and apathy from the authorities.”

“The blatant disregard for the well-being and rights of the affected individuals has left them with no choice but to escalate their protest and block all NHIDCL-related works and activities until their demands are met,” the statement read.

The Convenor announced that all NHIDCL-related works and activities “will continue to be blocked until the issue at hand is resolved, and the landowners are adequately compensated for the damages incurred.”

The statement further urged all concerned companies to “find alternate routes, as no NHIDCL-related vehicles will be allowed to pass through the concerned packages of National Highway 29 from Sedzu Bridge to Lanye Bridge.”

“The landowners stand united in their quest for justice and demand that the NHIDCL takes immediate steps to address their grievances and fulfill its obligations towards those impacted by the construction project,” the Convenor stated.

Citing the “prolonged delay in providing compensation,” the landowners said it has “taken a toll on the lives and livelihoods of the affected individuals,” and called on NHIDCL to “engage in meaningful dialogue to find a resolution that is fair and just.”

“The landowners are prepared to continue their protest until their voices are heard, and their rights are respected by the NHIDCL,” the statement added.
