Body of man found near Chungtia village; Police register UD case

The Mokokchung Police on Sunday recovered the body of a man found near a culvert along the road approximately one kilometre before Chungtia village. The discovery was made following information received from a source, a police official said.

Officers from Police Station-II, Mokokchung, led by the Officer-in-Charge, immediately rushed to the site and located the deceased male lying near a roadside drainage.

The body was later identified as that of Imrongtuden Jamir, son of Lt. Rev L Aomangyang, a resident of Alongmen Ward, Mokokchung, and originally from Changtongya village.

After completing necessary procedures at the site, the body was brought to the police station for further action. As the family declined a post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to them, the official said.

In connection with the incident, the police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case vide PS-II Mokokchung under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Authorities stated that further investigation is underway.
