Jalukie, March 23 (MExN): College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Placement Cell a constituent college under Central Agricultural University, Imphal, organised career counseling cum motivational talk on ‘role and prospects of veterinarians in wildlife, with special reference to elephant healthcare and management’ on March 20. 

The session was graced by Padma Shri Prof Dr KK Sarma, Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati, Assam. 

Dr Sarma delivered lecture on diverse career opportunities for veterinarians, particularly in wildlife healthcare in general, and elephant healthcare and management in particular. He emphasised the crucial role of veterinarians in mitigating human-animal conflicts, managing wildlife emergencies, and ensuring effective healthcare for wild animals, especially elephants.

Dr Sarma provided guidance on leadership development, encouraging young veterinarians to hone their skills and strive for excellence in their careers. The event was organised under the College Placement Cell, led by Chairman Dr SK Borthakur, Professor Dr SK Mukherjee, and coordinated by Dr Bhabesh Mili, Dr Amrit Gogoi, Dr RK Mandakini Devi, Dr Tukheswar Chutia, and Dr Malswamkima.
