CF extension signed under Neokpao’s leadership: Alezo Venuh

Dimapur | April 12

The GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo) announced that it has extended the ceasefire agreement with the Government of India (GoI) for another year. The announcement was made by its Ato Kilonser, Alezo Venuh, at the Dimapur airport, following his return from Delhi on April 12.

Following the split of the former GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Kitovi) into two camps— one led by Kitovi Zhimomi and the other by General (retired) MB Neokpao Konyak, questions were abuzz as to which camp assumed legitimacy over the peace deal with the GoI.  The Ceasefire was originally signed with the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Kitovi).

Venuh told media persons that the CF extension agreement was signed under the name of Neokpao. Earlier, on April 11, the Kitovi led camp claimed that the extension agreement was signed under the leadership of Kitovi Zhimomi.

According to Venuh, his entourage met MHA officials and that the peace process was on. He maintained that the GPRN/NSCN under Neokpao was intact and that they will continue to pursue “a Naga future.”  He said that Zhimomi and Neokpao coming together was not the only means to arriving at a final solution, while adding that they have to reach out to a larger audience.

According to him, it was not the end of the world and things can be worked out. It was not clarified whether the two camps signed the CF extension agreement on the same or separate documents.
