Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): A new Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) at Chekiye was inaugurated on Saturday by Dr Keveduyi Theyo, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland, in the presence of community leaders, health officials and villagers.
The programme commenced with an invocation prayer by Elika Y Swu, Pastor, Chekiye Village Baptist Church, followed by welcome remarks from Akahoto T. Shohe, Chairman of the Jan Arogya Samiti (JAS)-Health & Wellness Centre, Chekiye.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Theyo said the Health & Wellness Centre is more than just a building and represents a commitment to accessible and dignified healthcare for every citizen. He said the healthcare approach has shifted from curative treatment to preventive and promotive care, with the objective of addressing health concerns before disease sets in.
He stated that the Centre will provide comprehensive primary healthcare services, including screening and management of non-communicable diseases and cancers, maternal and child healthcare, immunisation, tuberculosis and malaria services, along with essential medicines, basic laboratory facilities and diagnostic services.
Dr. Theyo added that wellness activities such as yoga, physical exercise, dietary counselling and mental health support would also be integrated to promote holistic well-being at the community level.
He stressed that the success of the Centre would depend on active community participation and accurate performance reporting by the Health & Wellness Centre staff. He urged villagers to take ownership of the facility and make full use of the healthcare services available at their doorstep.
Vice Chairman of Chekiye Village Council, Hukiye Yepthomi, presented the construction report and informed that the Centre had been built on 6,090 square feet of land donated by Chekiye Village Baptist Akukuhou, while the community contributed towards the construction of the boundary fencing.
He assured that the Chekiye community would continue to extend full cooperation for the maintenance of the Centre so that it serves the people effectively for years to come.
The programme concluded with a benediction by Lito Zhimo, Children Pastor, Chekiye Village Baptist Church.
The event was attended by the Chief Medical Officers of Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts, the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Dimapur, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, District Tuberculosis Officer, District Programme Officer (CD-I), Medical Officer-in-Charge of PHC Chümoukedima, and officials and staff under the Chief Medical Officer and District Programme Management Unit.
