WC, NNPGs warns NSCN/FRGN to disband within two weeks

Dimapur, October 27 (MExN): The Neokpao-led WC, NNPGs has asked the NSCN/FRGN to withdraw its October 23 statement and tender an “unqualified apology.” It also directed the group to disband within two weeks or face “dire consequences”.

In a statement issued by its Media Cell, the WC said the FRGN’s statement was “immature and shortsighted” and amounted to “threat and intimidation”. It said the statement could cause communal unrest and “unnecessary fear and trauma” among Naga communities across India, including Naga students studying outside the state.

The WC asked the FRGN to apologise to the Naga people and to the non-Naga communities and entrepreneurs living peacefully in Nagaland.

It termed the FRGN as a “fringe group” led by “desperate, self-seeking and self-styled characters”. It accused the group of misusing the Naga political issue “to aggrandize themselves through cheap and abominable tactics of terror and harassment.”

“The WC shall not forebear their presence or their nefarious activities anywhere in Naga inhabited areas,” the statement said. It added that those involved would be “investigated, apprehended and punished befittingly” as an example to deter similar attempts.

The WC appealed to the targeted communities to stay calm and to report promptly to its office for “appropriate action”.

The NSCN/FRGN October 23 statement reportedly contained resolutions on Sunday observance, liquor prohibition, drug control and the closure of non-local businesses in phases. The last drew strong reactions from several quarters.
