District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Mokokchung concluded a week-long Child Rights Week, observed from November 14 to 20.
Mokokchung, November 21 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Mokokchung concluded a week-long Child Rights Week, observed from November 14 to 20 with a series of events focused on the theme “Every Child Matters - Every Right Counts.”
The campaign, which also highlighted November as Adoption Month, targeted key areas of Institutional Care, Churches, and the Community to raise awareness on child rights, legal adoption, and protection services, stated a press release.
The campaign focused on Institutional Care, Church and the Community, was held under the supervision of its District Child Protection Officer, Samuel Kapu, visited Care & Support Children Home under Institutional Care.
The observance began on November 14, coinciding with Children's Day, with a visit to the Care & Support Children Home in Tsümarshiong, Chungtia. A painting competition for children was held, and the day was graced by Ajay Moktan, IAS, Assistant Commissioner of Mokokchung District.
On November 16, awareness programmes were conducted at Chungtia Baptist Church and Sabangya Baptist Church. Resource persons T Asola Imsong, Protection Officer (Non-Institutional Care), and Imnatola, District Supervisor of the Child Helpline, emphasised legal adoption procedures, child rights, and the services provided by the Child Helpline.
A one-day sensitization programme on child protection and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was held at the Community Hall, Chungtiayimsen, on November 19. The program, featuring resource persons T Asola Imsong and Takotila Jamir, District Supervisor of the Child Helpline, specifically targeted the local community and migrant workers in brick kilns and manufacturing units in the Mangkolemba Block.
The week-long campaign concluded with a radio conversation where the DCPU officials discussed child rights and protection, reinforcing the message to a wider audience.
The events were conducted under the supervision of District Child Protection Officer, Samuel Kapu. The initiatives aimed to underscore the importance of safeguarding children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation while highlighting the collective role of individuals and communities in ensuring child well-being.
