KOHIMA, AUGUST 15 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio today launched and virtually commissioned multiple key government initiatives on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
In a significant push towards digital governance, the Chief Minister launched the Education Management Information System (EMIS), a centralised digital platform aimed at collecting, managing, and analysing educational data to strengthen planning, monitoring, and decision-making in the school education sector.
According to a DIPR report, EMIS currently holds data of over 1,800 government schools, personal information of more than 1,00,000 students, and fully digitised service records of over 22,000 teaching and non-teaching staff. The system provides a single record of a student’s journey from pre-primary to Class 12, while enabling real-time reporting, transparency, and evidence-based policy planning for the government.
Dr Rio also virtually commissioned the 10 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant (Phase-I & II), developed under the Department of New & Renewable Energy. The first 5 MW phase began in April 2022, followed by the second in December 2023. Located at Hovukhu Village in Niuland District, the plant spans 50 acres and was built at a total cost of Rs 69.26 crore under SASCI and State plan. It has an annual generation capacity of 12 million units.
As part of ongoing efforts to preserve Naga cultural heritage, the Chief Minister released Documented Books (Phase II) on Traditional Attires and Ornaments of the Angami and Sangtam Tribes, published by the Nagaland Heritage and Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDCL).
Additionally, Dr Rio virtually commissioned the Naga Integrated Settled Farming Irrigation Project at Boke Botsa, Kohima. Funded under the Chief Minister’s New Initiative Scheme in 2025 at an estimated cost of Rs 150 lakh, the project aims to demonstrate integrated water management and sustainable development practices.
