Committee on Urban Local Bodies and Nagaland Village Councils of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat during the visit to Dimapur town on July 31.
Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): The Committee on Urban Local Bodies and Nagaland Village Councils of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat conducted an official site visit to Dimapur town on July 31 to primarily review the implementation of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
The Committee, functioning under the Chairmanship of K Tokugha Sukhalu, Advisor, and accompanied by Members Imkongmar, Advisor, Dr Kekhrieilhoulie Yhome, Advisor, A Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA, Dr Neisatuo Mero, MLA, Y Lima Onen Chang, MLA, and Ar Jwenga Seb, MLA, held separate interactions with the Gaon Buras of Dimapur Town, Colony Chairmen under Dimapur Town and Councillors of the Dimapur Municipal Council.
An update received here stated that the discussions centered on the implementation of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, with emphasis on development of Urban Local Bodies, civic administration, service delivery and challenges at the grassroots level.
The Committee also interacted with the Village Development Board Secretaries under Dimapur Sadar, focussing on the implementation of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act of 1978, as well as relevant developmental activities, the challenges faced and suggestions going forward.
The stakeholders shared their views, concerns and suggestions on issues relating to urban governance, sanitation and solid waste management, implementation of Government schemes and financial resources.
The Committee took note of the issues and recommendations placed before it for further examination. It appreciated the cooperation extended by the District Administration, the Gaon Buras of Dimapur Town, the Colony Chairmen under Dimapur Town, Councillors of Dimapur Municipal Council, and the VDB Secretaries of Dimapur Sadar.
The Committee expressed confidence that the observations and recommendations arising from the visit would contribute towards strengthening the implementation of both the Acts under consideration and enhancing the overall functioning of both Urban Local Bodies and Rural Local Bodies in the State.
