Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today defended the decision of his government to appoint retired Director General of Police (DGP), R Chandranathan as security advisor of the state government.
Addressing media persons, Sangma said that one has to realize that the government is working on multiple fronts and that it is not easy to get people who understand the system and are able to contribute to the system.
He said that it is also easy to criticize and say that the government is giving them retirement posts but one has to realize the kind of benefits that we get.
The chief minister was countering the allegations made by the Voice of the People Party (VPP) that the state government is on an appointment spree despite the acute financial crunch being faced by the state.
He further informed that the state government needs a lot of coordination with the central government in terms of different programmes and schemes and in terms of situation.
“Therefore, it is very important to have a key person in a location like Delhi who would be able to coordinate all those aspects with us and the MHA and Government of India as a whole from security aspect – so that is the whole purpose and yes some people will criticize that’s fine but we know what is the purpose behind that is and we are looking at the overall interest of the state,” Sangma stated.
