It was a great relief to read the news “Government of Nagaland is all set to curb taxes”. Declaration of government that “Illegal collection of money is extortion” has been well appreciated by all . Finally, the state government has realized the hardships the common man is facing by paying so many taxes. In the darkness of corruption, spread all over the country a ray of light came when Anna Hazare supported by Kiran Bedi and many other supporters started a movement against corruption. Anna Hazare has become extremely popular among common people. The reason is simple; he is a man who is supporting the voice of a common man against corruption.
India is a democratic country. Every person has the right of freedom to express his/her views. If it is so, then why we the people in North East are so quiet. I feel we are indirectly supporting corruption in our region. There are people among us who support corruption by paying taxes. The end result is if a person opposes to pay tax then he is beaten up, injured and sometimes even murdered. Cases of kidnapping and extortion are on rise in our region. Paying taxes to so many organizations without even knowing what happened to that money is indirect support to corruption.
In North East Region of India there are several militant outfits rather the largest number of rebel outfits. I feel these militants only pretend to have become rebels or terrorists for some cause for the local people against the government. In reality they are engaged in all the illegal anti social activities like extortion, collecting money from common people, arms and ammunition dealings, drugs and narcotics and what not. All these illegal activities are tolerated by common man just because they are afraid of these armed militants.
There are so many cases of murders & killings by militant outfits for money. Their sole motive is to earn money. That is the reason why such a large no of militant outfits are here. Terrorism has become a business to earn easy money. Is this not corruption? This terror business reminds me the Bhai/Don in Mumbai who gets involved in “Hafta Wasuli” and plenty of other illegal activities in urban environment and does not even hesitate to kill people.
Earning money easily through illegal/criminal activities is not correct. Where is our society heading? Is this the way of life taught to us by our ancestors and our religion. I am sure such people and their activities are criticised by many of us .Police is behind such people but not able to stop or arrest these gangsters of North East.. Relief funds are promptly released for the families of the victims whenever any incident or crime occurs. The politicians can only do this much but we should not forget such incident can happen with us also. The relief is negligible for a mother who has lost her son.
We all should take a minute breath, halt our daily routine for a while and listen to a call from our heart, “Whatsoever is happening in my region, is it correct? ” Let us ponder over the activities of Anna Hazare and correlate it with our region. It is time now for us, the people in the North East to rise and give a little bit from our side to curb corruption.
