Maligaon, June 23 (MExN): The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata, Sumeet Singhal, has completed the statutory inspection of the newly constructed broad gauge double-line sections between Katihar–Kuretha (11.06 km) and Katihar–Sonaili (16.215 km) in the Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The inspection was conducted from June 17 to 19.

Following the inspection, the CRS has authorised the operation of passenger and goods trains on the newly constructed double-line sections at a maximum permissible speed of 110 kmph on the main line, informed a press release from the NFR.

The sections form part of the Katihar–Kumedpur and Katihar–Mukuria double-line projects aimed at enhancing line capacity and improving operational efficiency in the region.

NFR stated that the commissioning of the new sections is expected to improve train movement, increase line capacity and provide greater operational flexibility across the railway network. It added that the development marks another milestone in its efforts to strengthen railway infrastructure and provide safer, more efficient and reliable services for passengers and freight traffic.

Meanwhile, NFR appealed to the public to remain vigilant near railway tracks and avoid trespassing or crossing tracks at unauthorised locations. It advised passengers and local residents to use only designated crossing points, noting that unauthorised track crossing is punishable under the Railways Act and poses serious risks to personal safety and train operations.
