Maligaon, June 10 (MExN): Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata, Sumeet Singhal, will conduct the statutory inspection of the newly constructed broad gauge double line sections between Katihar (1.380 km)-Kuretha (12.440 km) and Katihar (1.327 km)-Sonaili (17.542 km) in the Katihar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) from June 12 to 14.

The two sections form part of the Katihar-Kumedpur and Katihar-Mukuria New Double Line Projects, a 64.14-km infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing rail capacity and operational efficiency in the region.

According to an official release, the project comprises two important bridges, 27 major bridges and 23 minor bridges, besides extensive track infrastructure and associated railway facilities.

On completion, the double line corridor will serve 16 railway stations, enabling improved train operations, enhanced line capacity, reduced congestion and more efficient movement of both passenger and freight traffic across the Katihar Division. The inspection of the Katihar-Kuretha and Katihar-Sonaili sections marks an important step in the project's progress.

During the three-day programme, the CRS will inspect station infrastructure, track geometry, bridges, signalling and telecommunication systems, electrical installations, safety arrangements and other railway assets on the newly constructed sections. Detailed examination of stations and field installations along the route will also be undertaken.

As part of the statutory certification process, speed trials on the newly constructed double line sections are scheduled to be conducted on June 14 to assess the operational readiness and safety standards of the infrastructure.

The completion of the Katihar-Kuretha and Katihar-Sonaili double line sections will mark another milestone in the modernisation and capacity augmentation efforts of Northeast Frontier Railway, contributing to improved connectivity and more efficient train operations across the region, the release added.
