The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2026 coordinating institute-Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, on May 1 announced the CSAB NEUT 2026 Special Counselling Round for undergraduate admissions for academic year 2026-27 for North East and Union Territories.

Surajit Kumar Roy, Convener, LOC, CSAB 2026 IIEST, told the media persons in Kohima that the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts joint counselling every year for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and government funded technical institutions based on JEE ranks. Within JoSAA, the CSAB is the body responsible for seat allocation to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Roy said that CSAB oversees approximately 47,922 seats across 113 institutions nationwide.

CSAB NEUT-North Eastern states and Union Territories, is a special counselling round initiated by the Government of India to ensure students from underserved regions have access to quality technical education across the country. CSAB NEUT seats are additional and separately created, which is over and above the seats offered through regular JoSAA/CSAB rounds. These seats are reserved specifically for student from the Northeast and Union Territories at institutions across India.

Government of India has an ongoing scheme of reservation of seats in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy courses conducted at degree level Technical Institutions across the country, for students belonging to North East States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) and Union Territories (Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Ladakh).

The allotment is conducted centrally through CSAB NEUT to ensure complete transparency and maximum participation.

1063 seats available under CSAB NEUT 2026
Dr Pabitra Halder, Coordinator, NUET Sub-Committee  CSAB 2026, IIEST said that a total of 1,063 seats are available under CSAB NEUT with 1,001 seats for B.E./B.Tech, 42 for BArch, and 20 for B Pharmacy. The same is distributed state-wise and category-wise across participating institutions. The CSAB NEUT registration will be opened in the last week of June 2026 and students have been asked to begin preparing their documents now. The CSAB Help Center will be active from June 2, 2026.

Dr Roy urged every eligible student from Nagaland and across the Northeast to register on time, prepare documents carefully and make full use of this initiative.

The seat allocation will be done on the basis of the JEE (Main) 2026 rank along with fulfilment of the requirements as mentioned in the JEE (Main) Information Brochure 2026, as well as guidelines and schedule to be notified on the JoSAA 2026 and CSAB 2026 websites. Candidates have been advised to visit the official JoSAA 2026 and CSAB websites (www.josaa.nic.in and www.csab.nic.in).

To maximize the possible participation of eligible students with utmost transparency, the Ministry of Education  has taken a decision of conducting seat allotment on such seats through CSAB for NEUT.

CSAB NEUT 2026 will make allotment of seats to candidates on the basis of JEE (Main)-2026 rank to admission in Engineering/Technology, Architecture courses. Allotment for pharmacy will be on the basis of percentage of marks obtained in class XII.

Additionally, the Board relaxed eligibility criteria apply for CSAB NEUT rounds at 45% marks in the qualifying examination for B.E./B.Tech, 50% marks for B.Arch/B.Plan and a further 5% relaxation is applicable for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

152 seats for Nagaland
David Tsela, Joint Director, Technical Education, Nagaland said that for the State of Nagaland, the Department of Technical Education as the nodal department for selection and nomination of candidates will be opening a help desk in the directorate. He said that any students, parents who wish to get more information with regards to the admission and the counselling process can contact the department. Nagaland has been allotted with 152 seats in architecture, pharmacy, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, he said. “We have seats in chemical engineering as well,” he added.

Earlier, CSAB 2026 team in association with Directorate of Technical Education, Nagaland has conducted awareness programme today in Kohima as part of counselling for admission to NITs,  IITs and  other GFTIs across India.
