KOHIMA, APRIL 1 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU), in collaboration with the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), organized a seminar on HIV and STI awareness on March 28 at Union Christian School, Pfutsero, in Phek district.

The seminar aimed to educate students about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), focusing on their prevention and the importance of early detection.

Students from various high schools and higher secondary schools attended the seminar.

CSU President Pfhülo Sara delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of awareness and education in preventing the spread of HIV and STIs. He highlighted the critical role of young students in spreading accurate information and breaking the stigma associated with these infections.

The main session was led by Hierhotho Kajiri, DIS DISHA, Phek. He provided detailed information on the causes, symptoms, and transmission of HIV and STIs, as well as preventive measures, including safe practices, medical interventions, and the importance of early testing and treatment. He also addressed misconceptions and stigmas related to HIV/AIDS.

An interactive discussion followed the presentation, where students expressed their concerns, asked questions, and gained clarity on various aspects of HIV and STI prevention. This session encouraged open dialogue, motivating students to make informed decisions about their health.

As part of the initiative, a voluntary blood testing drive was conducted, allowing students to undergo HIV screening and counseling. This aimed to promote early detection and reduce the stigma associated with HIV testing.

CSU Finance Secretary Rhilo Chiero chaired the session.

The organizers expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, and volunteers for their contributions in making the seminar a grand success.
