CVYS 31st annual sports meet commences

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 27 (MExN):  The 31st annual sports meet of the Chumoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) got underway at the village ground on December 26 with pastor of Chumoukedima Village Baptist Church, Rev. Lhouzovi-u Shuya, as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony.
The chief guest in his address quoted 2 Timothy 2: 4-6, “…Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules…” and urged the youth to exhibit true sporting spirit and play according to the rules of the game. Rev. Shuya also said the players should put the team interest above individual interest and cited the case of team France in the last World Cup, where because of the difference between the French football captain Nicolas Anelka and the coach, the world cup dreams of the French team was shattered.
Further, Rev. Shuya said that in order to excel in games and sports, the players should be disciplined, not only physically fit but also mentally and spiritually fit, which will be possible only if one maintain a life of abstinence from bad habits. Stressing on the importance of knowing the Lord for a Christian sportsperson, he said that the “Lord is the best coach and guide” for a Christian sportsperson.  
The chief guest also kicked off the opening football match between the Nike and Puma teams. The youths have been divided into four houses –Nike, Puma, Adidas and Reebok.
The disciplines of the sports meet include football, volleyball, badminton, shot put, javeline, jumps and race as well as games for the junior category.
The CVYS sports meet played with “Social networking through sports” will conclude on December 31 with head GB of Chumoukedima, Neichuhu Sokra, as guest of honour in the valedictory function.
