Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): The Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) on June 13 expressed serious concern over the deteriorating condition of several key roads in and around Dimapur, alleging that their poor state has caused immense hardship to commuters, students, office-goers, business establishments and the general public.
In a statement, the DDCC said the road stretch from Purana Bazaar to Supermarket has deteriorated drastically despite having been repaired and developed only recently. It claimed that the road is now riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces and damaged sections, raising questions over the quality of workmanship and the utilisation of public funds.
The committee also drew the attention of the authorities to the road leading to the New Deputy Commissioner's Office at Purana Bazaar, stating that it continues to remain in a poor condition despite being an important administrative route used regularly by government officials and members of the public.
The DDCC further alleged that the recently constructed Niuland Road has already developed numerous potholes and damaged stretches, making travel unsafe and uncomfortable. It said the premature deterioration of the road warrants immediate inspection and corrective measures by the departments and agencies concerned.
Appealing to the authorities, including the Public Works Department and the district administration, the committee urged that repair and restoration work on the affected roads be taken up on an urgent basis.
It also called for a thorough assessment of the quality of construction and sought accountability from contractors wherever substandard work is found.
Stating that the people of Dimapur and Niuland deserve safe, durable and quality road infrastructure, the DDCC urged the government to take immediate steps to address the issues without further delay in the larger public interest.
